Playermon x NFT Storage

Hey there Playermon Community !

The Playermon team have something excited to share with our dearest Playermon Masters and fans in its journey to provide the ultimate NFT experience!

Playermon NFT have always been available on the decentralised Web 3 world with IPFS since the beginning via Pinata Pinning Service as well as locally hosted IFPS node.

Today, we are happy to announce the partnership between Playermon and NFT.Storage, this will make the Playermon NFT contents available on IPFS Official Gateway, leveraging the storage of the validators on the Filecoin network. The integration are done via NFT.Storage.

In line with the partnership, the team have updated the NFT to a higher definition with a background that could allows collectors to identify the rarity of a playermon directly by looking at the background. The upgrade of the Playermon NFT Image is to ensure that the NFT could be seen on Opensea as a higher quality project instead of a low resolution digital pets.

The New Rarity Background Our rarities have undergo an upgrade! Tired of checking your Playermons rarity at the website by clicking into the Playermon individually? Worry no more because we have upgraded and just by looking at their background we can automatically identify its rarity! Witness an uncommon’s background and notice how different it is from the lower rank. Want to know if your Playermon is a common, uncommon, rare, epic or legendary? Just look at that background for it says it all. Below, we will share the different type of rarity with an example available of “Developer” as the Head

What to do if my NFT is not updated on OpenSea

Since OpenSea cached the NFT Metadata and NFT Image on their local server, there is a possibility that your NFT Image is not updated and you are seeing your old lower resolution NFT Image. Don’t worry, you could ask OpenSea to update your latest NFT Image by just pressing the “Refresh Metadata” button located at the top right corner and it will be updated within a minute or two! You may need to refresh the page after the Metadata Refresh is clicked.

before-and-after

The Purpose of IPFS for Playermon NFT

Having NFT Image and Metadata stored on the IPFS are expected in the Web 3.0 world where the server of the project should not be the only source to the content of the NFT.

On Ethereum, Polygon and other blockchains, the NFT itself is stored on-chain. However, the metadata (all the files, images, videos, etc) associated with the NFT are typically linked elsewhere.

This is good for cases in which the assets of the NFT are too large to store directly on the chain. Second, when planning for interoperability, storing the metadata of an NFT directly on one chain can make planning for moving that NFT across chains more difficult.

In both these cases, resilient links to off-chain content are needed. “Normal” URLs (like HTTP) can introduce a point of centralization accidentally coupling an NFT to a specific server, rather than the content sitting on that server. This can lead to issues over time including broken links, 404 errors, or the mutation of content.

IPFS is an ideal solution to this problem rather than linking the content based on where the content lives, content can be linked to a unique fingerprint of the content itself. With IPFS, anyone can ask for a piece of content by its unique fingerprint and anyone who has that content can serve it back. This is powerful because it means so long as someone on the network is serving this content the link should resolve.

On top of this, because IPFS doesn’t specify a storage layer, the content can live and be served from anywhere a local computer, a hosted node like Pinata, your personal Brave browser, or even decentralized storage networks.

How can Filecoin help?

IPFS neatly solves the problem of resilient linking , allowing us to request and receive data based solely on the content, rather than a specific location. But in order to truly secure our NFTs, we need to also ensure that someone is offering that content into the IPFS network. This is where Filecoin can help.

Filecoin offers verifiable storage on the largest decentralized storage network. Unlike other networks, Filecoin uses both carrots and sticks to make sure that content stays on the network as long as its users require. Filecoin storage providers are required to prove to the network that they’ve kept user data safe. In the event they can, they become eligible for block rewards. In the event they can’t, the storage provider is slashed. In this way, not only is there an incentive to keep data around — but a penalty for letting data drop.

In this way, NFT data can be securely stored with the ability for anyone to verify that this content is still intact and resiliently available.

About NFT.Storage

NFT.Storage is a long-term storage service designed for off-chain NFT data (like metadata, images, and other assets). Data is content addressed using IPFS, meaning the URI pointing to a piece of data (“ipfs://…”) is completely unique to that data (using a content identifier, or CID). IPFS URLs and CIDs can be used in NFTs and metadata to ensure the NFT forever actually refers to the intended data (eliminating things like rug pulls, and making it trustlessly verifiable what content an NFT is associated with).

NFT.Storage stores many copies of uploaded data on the public IPFS network in two primary ways: in dedicated IPFS servers managed by NFT.Storage, and decentralized on Filecoin. Since IPFS is a standard used by many different storage services, it’s easy to redundantly store data uploaded to NFT.Storage on any other IPFS-compatible storage solution from pinning services, to your local IPFS node, to other storage networks like Arweave or Storj. And as time goes on, NFT.Storage will increasingly decentralize itself as a public good!

What more can we look forward to?

Through this partnership, not only will it make our NFT more secure, it will also present a better version of our Playermons in Higher Definition. Brighter, clearer and more amazing playermons!

In line with this, we would also like to remind our community that in cases where your NFT is not updated, we highyly recommend clicking the refresh button at the opensea page.

This is something entirely amazing to look forward to and we are proud to share it with you as our community. Rest assured that it is just the beginning of a bigger and bolder Playermon so you better stay tuned for more.
